Usually ships in 1 business days | | | "Apoplectic" is the word to describe Lewis Black's 2006 engagement at Washington DC's Warner Theater. There's eye-crossing, teeth-gnashing, raspy-voiced yelling, and liberal use of the f-word. (As Black reveals, the Kennedy Center refused their facilities on the grounds that he used the word 42 times in his first hour-long HBO special.) Then again, George W. Bush's second term has given the comedian much to be apoplectic about--Dick Cheney's hunting mishap, airport (in)security, the president's support of creationism, and the inanity of 24-hour cable news. At one point, he admits, "I just can't keep up with all the...stuff," although that isn't his exact phrase. Lest potential viewers think Black (The Daily Show, Black on Broadway) is nothing but a blue state apologist, he makes his distaste for John Kerry clear, i.e. "The fact of the matter is for the Democrats not to be able to find somebody who could've defeated George Bush is beyond belief--it's stunning." Black also explores misconceptions about Judaism, the media obsession with Terry Schiavo, and myths about the "homosexual agenda," which is to say: there isn't one. A few too many excretory jokes aside, Black otherwise makes good points and produces hearty laughs--some from his proud parents, who are part of the audience. As for the extras, they're brief, but amusing, and English is the only audio option. --Kathleen C. Fennessy | | | |

Way too funny! Mar 10, 2008 Lewis Black is not for everyone - however, if you like to laugh, this show cannot be beat. He takes everyone to task (Democrats, Republicans, Independents) for the rediculous things done by politicians. He does use some foul language, so if you are easily offended, beware.
Hilarious comedian who is not afraid of being critical Feb 25, 2008 Lewis Black's politically based HBO special typically results in non-stop laughs. He has a way with words and is not afraid to call things as he sees them. Extremely critical toward the hypocrisy and apparent lack of common sense which is evident in modern American politics (and society in general), he will either make you laugh uncontrollably or curse with anger, depending on what side of the fence you find yourself. There seems to be no issue that Lewis Black will not touch.
One of my favorites right now! Jan 12, 2008 OMG, Lewis Black has got to be one of the funniest comedians around right now! He tells it like it is, but with his own little twist. If the F word offends you, this isn't the DVD for you, because it is used quite regularly! A good purchase!
One of the Most Influential Moderate Voices of his Generation Jan 08, 2008 I saw this before and despite having already watched it once I will be buying it soon to watch again. I have been a long time fan of Lewis Black since his older albums where he reamed the stupidity of the left, to the present where he gives the absurd minded right their come uppance as well.
The good of the album is that Lewis is an exceptionally intelligent and funny man with a very good message for those willing to listen. From Clinton to Cheney, from Bush to Kerry, his vitriolic salvos invoke laughter and serious thought time and time again while challenging those on the right and left to question where they stand and who they choose to put faith in (a growing neccesity in the mis-information age).
The bad of the album is really up for interpretation: if you are strongly conservative you will find very little funny unless you lean towards the middle or have a sense of humor about politics. In Mr Blacks defense, his White Album is something quite the opposite, something you might like while strongly liberal folks would disdain his message there, so at least he is fair in choosing his targets. If you are new to Lewis Black he swears using vulgar language alot (I really can't stress "a lot" enough) in the expression of his hilariously angry rhetoric, so if your preference is for a comedian such as Foxworthy or Sinbad who doesn't "work blue" as much then you are looking for someone else.
If you have a good sense of humor, a tolerance for a few (and by few I mean lots of) well placed "dirty words", and aren't overly rigid in your political or theological views then you cannot beat Lewis Black.

Black is a genious! Dec 10, 2007 Black starts out by attacking the Kennedy Center (because they wouldn't host his special) and then sails into politicos (both Democrat and Republican) and has a hilarious piece on the old Testament and New Testament. Black is truly one of the top comic geniouses today!
