First you're hot, then you're not...and then you're Alex Fletcher (HUGH GRANT). So when the sizzlingest tween-queen on the charts asks the has-been '80s pop sensation to write her a song, he grabs for another chance at stardom. Problem: Alex can say it with music, but he sure can't say it with words. Enter Sophie Fisher (DREW BARRYMORE), his beguiling if quirky plant lady, who has a green thumb for lyrics. Together, they go after songwriting success -- and discover that if you want to write the perfect love song, it helps to fall in love. With Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore at the keyboard and Marc Lawrence (Two Weeks Notice) directing, Music and Lyrics is a witty, wacky romantic comedy that faces the music...and laughs!

A good romantic comedy film, a good idea for your girlfriend as a gift on any occasion.

4Music and Lyrics  Jul 06, 2010
Review from [...]

Alex, former songwriting and singing sensation, is not so hot anymore. Decades have passed, and new stars have risen. Alex has dropped to the backseat and the D-list. It looks like his career is over.

Until Cora, the hottest singer at the time, offers him a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If Alex can write a great song entitled "Way Back Into Love", Cora will sing it, and it's almost a given that the song will be a hit. This is what Alex has been waiting for.

Although Alex excels at writing music, he's horrible at lyrics. After working with several frustrating lyricists, he convinces Sophie, his new gardener, to parter up with him. Once Sophie is convinced that she's good enough to write a song, the two have to master the challenge of working together.

The pressure is on: this is Alex's last chance to bring himself back. If the song doesn't work out, Alex will fade into the background once and for all, and all of Sophie's confidence will disappear. Can the two manage it?

Music and Lyrics is a fun, heartwarming movie (and I love Drew Barrymore!). It can be seen either by yourself, with a friend, or with a group of friends. Touching and inspiring, Music and Lyrics is a must-see!

4Viva La Musica!!  Jun 24, 2010
I thought this movie was very cute and funny! Yes, some parts are corny but sometimes corny is just what is needed! Drew Barrymore does a wonderful job in this movie. Her character is a talented song writer, although she doesn't know it. Hugh Grant is tolerable in this one, playing as the late pop sensation who is looking for another hit song. If you want something to watch after a hard days work and just have a good laugh MUSIC AND LYRICS is the best way to go.

5M&L  May 02, 2010
I love Music and Lyrics. I rented that movie at the Public library at my hometown. I rented it along with the Soundtrack. When I transported it onto my Ipod, it was complete. Then I watched it and I enjoyed it and that is when I found out that I love Romantic Comedy. I watched it and it was thrilling. I want to rent it because I also like my British boyfriend Hugh Grant, which I nickname him imagniably Sir Hugh. The music was great and right After the movie, I listened to the Soundtrack and it was going well for me. I never knew what Music & Lyrics was or what it was about until I began to really like my British Boyfriend. My sister was watching it too and she said that at first it wasn't going well, but then it was a good story. I don't even have to get it at a store that sells it or anything, I loved it. I give it a 5 Stars.

2Thus have the mighty fallen...  Apr 21, 2010
Hugh Grant is arguably one of the most endearing romantic leads who has ever graced the silver screen--sweet, tender, vulnerable, and, unfortunately, aging. Pairing him up with the witless Drew Barrymore didn't help this fallen angel one bit. He is still getting on in years, and it shows. Drew Barrymore's lack of talent also shows. But, when you consider how vapid the plot of this movie was, and how awful the writing, you really can't hold Music and Lyrics against either one of them. The saddest part is that the man who played Chopin so admirably in Impromptu had to come to this ignoble end.
